This is equivalent to the carbon emissions of 2.05 million PET bottles, remarks Lo. “We expect to continue to build solar power at our Yangmei plant so that we can reduce the carbon footprint of our products,” she adds.
Such initiative aligns with far-sighted government policies that have aimed to shift production from labor-intensive processes to withstand competition from developing countries.
From 2000 to 2004, Super Textile also built a water harvesting facility to reuse rainwater for sanitation, firefighting, and irrigation. The current water reserve of 218.4 tons is good news for the greenery around the factory, which occupies around 30 percent of the production area.
The company’s Global Recycle Standard (GRS), ISO 14000, 18000 and 9001, as well as and OEKO-TEX certifications are also crucial for international brands that value product authenticity and safety. “Through these certifications, brands hope to buy good products from responsible companies,” the vice president adds.
To this end, Super Textile will introduce a product carbon footprint inventory in 2022 to understand the carbon emissions produced directly or indirectly during the production cycle of its fabrics.

Reducing Waste Through Innovative Manufacturing Processes
After more than 60 years of development, Taiwan’s textile industry has for sure evolved from a mass-produced textile supplier to a textile innovator with a complete yet integrated value chain.

“The pineapple is one of the most widely planted crops globally,” stresses Lo. “In the past, the leaves were treated as waste and buried directly in the files, which easily caused pollution and impacted the quality of subsequent fruit cultivation.”
“This is a financial burden for the farmers who pay up to NT$40,000 per hectare to dispose of agricultural waste,” she notes. “After research, we observed that the pineapple leaf fiber is similar to hemp, making it suitable for textile products.”
Turning to the technology of producing innovative and eco-friendly fabrics, Super Textile is constantly striving to reduce waste through its manufacturing process.
“We are also known internationally for our yarns made from recycled PET bottles and fabrics with antibacterial and deodorizing properties in recent years,” says Lo.
